firstly, you must get your blog ready, use a very good template. Your blog must be easily assessable on the webview and also on the mobile view. There are some rules announced by adsense team that you must know before applying for adsense. Firstly, adsense announced that publishers need to own the site for minimum of 6 month especially countries like china and india, but to me, this rules does not stand because i have seen publishers from this countries getting adsense within 2 weeks. The only thing important is the quality of your website/blog.

Quality content:

Adsense respect quality content. Your content must be unique, it must not be copied from anywhere. It is important you write your content yourself. Make sure you have minimum of 20 articles on your blog and each articles must have atleast 600words. Do not copy other people content as this will deprive you from getting adsense approval. It is important that you also know this. Create your own image or go to flickr.com to pick a free image for your content. Most bloggers are not aware of this. Most bloggers write their articles themselves but they are still not approved by adsense, this is because they are not lincensed to use the image that was used in the article.

You must optimize your blog post with Description Tag and Meta Title.

What is Meta Tag, This Describes what your content is about to the crawler bots. You should note that it is impossible for adsense editorials to check all the blog post of every individual that applied for adsense. So because of this, their crawler both is been used as this will make it easy for them to access many blogs in minuites.  You must make sure you specified this tags with accurate information because the bots will check all footprint on your blog.

Please also note that your Meta Title should be between 69 characters including spaces, and  Description should be between 156 characters.

Apply Using Root Domain:

You should always apply using the root domain like yourdomain.com. Not blog.yourdomain.com.

Do not choose copyrighted images:

I once discussed about choosing content images, i still want to discuss more about it. You should know that google does not approve blogs that have copyrighted contents. 

Copyrighted - This means things that have been copied from other blogs without their permision. Most of us are guilty of this when choosing an image. Most bloggers just go to an image directory, pick an image and post it on their blogs. The truth is that most adsense who refused to get approval from adsense is because of this copyrighted law. And it is mostly caused by the images we used.

Check if Your Blog is Not Blocked by Google:

Always check if your blog has been blocked by google, because adsense will always check your blog statistics on their search engine. For those that dont know how to check it, just search for "site:yourdomain.com" for example, site:bclems.com.ng on google. If you find your post, that means your blog is not blocked. But if you dont, just forget about adsense or change your url.

Adsense prohibited content is not allowed:

Adsense has stated that site that has adult contents, copyrighted contents, drug alcohol-related contents, hacking cracking contents, violent contents, weapons related contents and other illegal contents will not be approved.

Visitor are not factor for adsense approval: 

Though you will need visitors in your blog in other to make good earnings with adsense but note that this is not a factor of getting your adsense account approved. The major factor is good content.
